U.S. new cars sales declined by 0.5% in May 2017 compared to the same month last year - to 1.52 million vehicles, according to Motor Intelligence. At the same time, in terms of annual rates, sales volume decreased to 16.66 million cars from 16.81 million in April and 17.17 million a year ago.
Ford Motor Co. bypassed General Motors Co. (GM) in May and for the first time since March 2016 became the largest US automotive concern by sales volume. Ford sales climbed up 2.2 percent to 241.126 vehicles, while GM sales fell by 1.3 percent to 237.364 units.
Fiat Chrysler Automobile sales dropped by 1% in May, to 193 thousand cars.
Tesla Inc. sales soared by 37%, to 4.050 electric vehicles.
