U.S. major indexes mark gains, Dow closes above 24 000 for first time-out

U.S. stocks advanced on Thursday, with the Dow closing above 24,000 for the first time in history, as investors watched progress toward passage of the tax reform.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.4%, to 24,272.35. The S&P 500 index leaped 0.8%, to 2,647.58, and the Nasdaq Composite Index edged up 0.7%, to 6,873.97.
