Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average soared Friday amid a broad Asia market rally that capped off a volatile week, as investors put their hopes in more stimulus from major central banks.
Stocks rose around the world, extending Thursday’s rebound from a 2 1/2-year low, on speculation that central banks will expand stimulus measures to counter turmoil in financial markets. Oil surged with emerging-market currencies, while haven assets retreated.
It has been a truism of the American economy for decades: When oil prices rise, the economy suffers; when they fall, growth improves.
