MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares inched 0.15 percent higher.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 0.3 percent by mid-morning. South Korean shares flipped between small gains and declines while Chinese shares struggled for direction after starting in the red.
The blue-chip CSI 300 index leaped near about 1.3 percent.
The calm came following quiet session on Wall Street overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose slightly 0.02 percent, its sixth rise in the last seven trading days.
