Asian shares were on track to finish broadly higher on Friday, capping an impressive year, which was the best since the post-global financial crisis recovery of 2009.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index increased 0.2%, heading for a record high. The index jumped 33% in 2017.
The Japanese Nikkei 225 was almost unchanged, but added 19% during the year.
The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong grew 0.2%, gaining 36% for the year. The Chinese Shanghai Composite dropped 0.1%, but rose 6% over the year.
The Australian index S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.4%, but it increased 7.1% for the year.
