Asian stocks gain on U.S. tax cut hopes

Asian stocks inched up on Monday, with investors' sentiment supported by expectations President Donald Trump’s tax plan will be passed this week.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares advanced 0.4 percent.

Japan's Nikkei jumped 1.6 percent to move closer to a 25-year high of 23,382 points. 

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.9 percent, while the Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.2 percent.

Australian shares advanced 0.7 percent.
