British parliament backs snap general election on June 8

UK Prime Minister Theresa May got parliament's backing for a snap general election on June 8, a vote, according to her, would provide strong and stable position in divorce negotiations with the EU.

MPs backed the poll by 522 votes to 13. Under the Fixed Term Parliament Act Mrs May needed two-thirds majority to put into action her plan.

According to latest poll, the Conservatives are leading by 42% to 26% for Labour.
