Demand for cyber insurance in Asia soars by 87%

Demand for cyber insurance in Asia jumped by 87% year-on-year, while the global rise was 38 percent, following the global attack of the computer virus WannaCry, which in May this year infected over 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries, U.S. insurer AIG reported.

The high demand in Asia compared to the rest of the world shows how Asian companies are lagging behind in theirs awareness of the cyber risks, noted Jason Kelly, AIG's head of liabilities and financial lines.

More than 1.3 million computers were affected by a massive attack of the WannaCry virus, which paralyzed the work of hospitals in the UK, as well as disrupted the operation of transport networks and operations of many companies in various business areas.
