The dollar traded above its recent lows versus main counterparts on Thursday but capped by worries over recent pressure on global equity markets.
The dollar index was firm on the day at 90.242, near last session peak of 90.40, its highest level in two weeks.
The greenback rose slightly versus its Japanese peer at 109.37 yen.
The euro inched up 0.1 percent to $1.2278 but remained near its overnight trough of $1.2246.
Sterling gained 0.2 percent to $1.3905.
