The greenback remained firm at 106.80 yen after having jumped 0.5 percent on Friday to rebound from a 16-month trough of 105.24 yen touched on March 2.

The euro traded at $1.2309, staying below an almost three-week peak of $1.2447 hit on Wednesday.

Sterling was flat at $1.3858.

The Australian dollar surged 0.4 percent to 78.71 U.S. cents, its top in almost two weeks.

The wages slowdown was offset by strong U.S. employment growth data, boosting expectations the Fed would increase interest rates three times in 2018.
