EasyJet plans to develop flying electric planes

EasyJet in a tie-up with U.S. engineering startup Wright Electric will develop a fully electric commercial passenger aircraft within a decade.

The new, battery-powered plane would have a range of 335 miles. It would be able to fly passengers on routes such as London to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Development of electric engines in the aerospace industry would cut emissions and noise, easyJet’s chief executive said.
