The European Commission on Wednesday, March 7, plans to consider the situation in connection with the President Trump's announcement of steep tariffs on steel and aluminum and discuss possible response measures of the EU, Alexander Winterstein, a spokesman for the European Commission, said.
The Commission already has prepared countermeasures against the United States in order to restore balance. The Commission will discuss them next week. If there is an increase in import duties on European products, the EU will work in close cooperation with its partners to appeal to the WTO as soon as possible.
According to spokesman, it is fundamentally important now to react more quickly taking into account the European industry is threatened by very stringent measures.
