EU will consider special investment program for Greece

The European Union should consider a special investment program in the amount of 1 billion euros to stimulate growth of the Greece economy, Austria's finance minister Hans Joerg Schelling said.

According to Schelling, Greece could return to the path of growth and restore access to capital markets, only if it had the opportunity to show sustainable growth in the medium and long term. The investment program can be implemented through the European Investment Bank or, possibly, with the European bailout fund.

In December last year, the EIB launched a €1bn credit line to Greek banks, mostly for relending to small and medium-sized companies and firms that promote youth occupation.
