The euro inched up versus the dollar on Friday after the Brexit-deal had been agreed to in principle by EU and UK negotiators.
The single currency climbed to $1.1413. All eyes are now on a special summit in Brussels on Sunday, where EU leaders are expected to sign the withdrawal agreement.
At the same time, the ongoing clash between Italy's government and EU authorities over Rome's budget limited the gains.
Sterling was stable at $1.2875 after surging more than 1 percent overnight.
