Euro rose to $1.1986 against the dollar on Friday, scaling to $1,1997 at one point. The single European currency ticked up to 134.95 yen.
The dollar fell to 112.57 yen against its Japanese peer.
In 2017, the ICE U.S.Dollar Index, which tracks the dynamics of the dollar against the six major world currencies, fell by 9.6%, its strongest decline since 2003.
On Friday the pound inched up half a percent to a three-week peak of $1.3511.
Bitcoin was virtually unchanged on the day at $14,500 on the Bitstamp exchange, having slumped 6 percent on Thursday.
