The euro ticked up on Wednesday ahead of Trump and European Commission President meeting at the White House but gains were capped with traders cautious about a trade row between the two largest economies.

The common currency added 0.1 percent to $1.1694. The dollar index was virtually unchanged at 95.55.
Versus the yen, the greenback rose 0.1 percent to 111.32 yen.
The Aussie dropped after figures on Wednesday showed inflation remained low last quarter, shrugging off solid economic growth. It dipped 0.2 percent to $0.7407.
The yuan surged 0.3 percent in offshore trading to 6.7905 a dollar.
Investors were also awaiting a European Central Bank (ECB) policy meeting on Thursday for clues about the further monetary policy.
