The euro advanced on Monday as a drop in U.S. Treasury yields weighed on the dollar, but trading was relatively soft ahead of comments by central bankers and election Italy this week.
The single currency rose 0.3 percent to $1.2334.
The dollar index slipped 0.2 percent to 89.685 .DXY.
The greenback dipped 0.1 percent against the yen to 106.65 yen.
April gold jumped 0.9 percent, to $1,342.20 an ounce, and March silver leaped 1.3 percent, to $16.69 an ounce.
