Euro zone business activity remains strong

Euro area manufacturing activity in August grew at the fastest pace for 6 years, according to data from IHS Markit.

A Purchasing Managers’ Index for manufacturing climbed to 55.8 in August from 55.7, while experts polled by had expected a reading of 55.5.

The latest PMI figures for the euro area show an extension of the recent impressive performance of the 19-nation euro economy. This strengthening in the pace of expansion is comforting, following signals of growth losing steam in recent months, Andrew Harker, associate director at IHS Markit, said.
