Eurozone economic confidence rises to near 17-year high

Euro zone economic sentiment increased in October for the fifth month in row to scale its top since the start of 2001, shrugging off the Catalan crisis, European Commission reported on Monday.

The index of industry and consumer sentiment rose to 114.0 points in October from a 113.1 the previous month, more than economists had predicted in a Reuters poll.

Confidence increased noticeable in Germany, the bloc’s first economy, and in Italy, while it slipped in France. Despite the political turmoil surrounding the Catalan crisis, sentiment grew also in Spain.
