Germany has highest trade surplus with US in first half

The first 6 months recorded Germany’s sales to the U.S. at 24.4 bln euros or $28.3 bln, which surpasses the value of imports from the partner country, as indicates today’s report by the Federal Statistics Office.

It means that positive trade balance was 100 mln euros, lower than in 2017 but Germany remains the top state in terms of trade surplus with the U.S., a situation that President Trump has pledged to end.

The IMF has criticized Germany’s surplus in trade as well, saying it raised risks of trade tensions and threatened financial stability in the world.
