GM invests in self-driving technology

General Motors, the U.S. largest automaker, said it would buy Strobe Inc, a company that makes the leading next-generation lidar sensors which help to measure the distance between objects.

Therefore GM intends to speed up development of autonomous vehicles and to build a mass-produced self-driving car.

Conditions of the deal were not disclosed. GM and its U.S. rival Ford Motor Co have both publicly said that they plan to have a line of new electric vehicles by 2023.
