Japan Airlines invests $10 million in supersonic passenger liner

Japan Airlines has invested $10 million in a startup Boom Technologies, which is developing a supersonic passenger airliner.

Denver-based company expects to launch its first aircraft by the middle of the 2020s. And the Japanese airline intends to purchase up to 20 airliners of the U.S. manufacturer.

Boom hopes that its aircraft will cruise speeds of Mach 2.2 — more than 1,450 miles an hour. Thus, from Tokyo to the western coast of the U.S. it will be possible to fly in just five hours.
