Joblessness in eurozone slumps to near eight-year low

Unemployment in 19 eurozone countries fell to 9.5% in February from 9.6% in the previous month, according to the data of the Eurostat agency. The indicator has updated the lowest level since May 2009.

The number of unemployed fell by 140.000 compared to January - to 15.579 million people. In Italy their number decreased to 2.98 million compared with 3.06 million, and in Spain to 4.09 million from 4.13 million.

Unemployment rate has been declining steadily, albeit slowly, since the beginning of the region's economic growth in mid-2013. At the same time, eurozone's unemployment rate is more than double that in the U.S.
