Looming trade war makes stock investors search for more secure spots

Europe’s equity market has been restrained in the year by worries of trade tariffs and sagging business activity globally.

Conversely, it has been a benefit for stocks of other firms like pharmaceutical manufacturers and food producers that are not so tied to the economic cycle. They could be an alternative in case of a full-blown trade war between the U.S. and China.

Sometimes fund managers have shrugged off the difficulties such companies came across as they attracted with their valuations and ability to withstand economic slump caused by trade issues.
