Microsoft market capitalization exceeds $600 billion for first time in 17 years

On Thursday, Microsoft's capitalization exceeded the $600 billion mark for the first time since January 3, 2000. The company's shares finished up 0.4% to $77.91. 

Since the beginning of the year, Microsoft quotations have increased by 25.4%, on track for the best annual result since 2013.

In terms of capitalization, Microsoft ranks third among companies included in the S&P 500, behind Apple ($ 800 billion) and Alphabet Inc. (about $ 690 billion).
