Nestle takes majority stake in Blue Bottle Coffee

Switzerland’s Nestle announced the purchase of a 68 percent stake of Blue Bottle Coffee for $425 million.

By the end of the year, Blue Bottle Coffee will operate 55 stores in the U.S. and Japan, in addition, the company is engaged in roasting coffee and sells it both in its coffee shops and online.

The acquisition of Blue Bottle Coffee means that Nestle, one of the world's largest producers of instant coffee, wants to expand its presence in the coffee market of a premium class. Until now, its main asset was the Nespresso brand.
