Netflix raises its prices for U.S. subscribers

Netflix is raising prices for 53 million U.S. subscribers starting on October 5.

The price of the lowest-tier plan will be unchanged at $7.99. But the standard tier, which includes HD and two simultaneous streams, will be bumped up from $9.99 to $10.99 per month.

The price increase would be the first in two years for Netflix. In 2015, Netflix raised its "standard plan" from $8.99 to $9.99.
