Oil firm after U.S. crude inventories fall

Oil prices were steady on Thursday, maintaining recent gains after another drop in U.S. crude supplies.

October Brent crude rose 1 cent to $52.58 per barrel. U.S. light, sweet crude was 5 cents lower at $48.36 a barrel.

The U.S. domestic crude supplies slumped by 3.3 million barrels for the week ended Aug. 18, the seventh straight week, the Energy Information Administration reported.
