Pound rises on positive reports on Brexit negotiations

The pound inches up in early trading on Wednesday amid reports that the UK and the European Union are on the verge of a breakthrough in Brexit negotiations.

Sterling has leaped to $1.3406, its top since the end of September. The British currency is also edging higher versus the euro, up 0.3% at €1.13.

The rally was boosted by messages that the UK could pay a £50bn brexit bill, in an attempt to push European policymakers into starting talks about new trade deal.
