Review: Asian stocks start widely higher

Asian shares inched up on Thursday after minutes from the Federal Reserve’s July meeting revealed intention to keep interest rate unchanged as inflation remains weak.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares rose 0.55 percent.

Japan's Nikkei slid 0.1 percent.

South Korea’s Kospi index was up 0.6 percent. The Hang Seng Index dropped 0.3 percent even as Tencent leaped 2.8 percent.

Australian stocks pulled back 0.1 percent.
