Japan's Nikkei fell 0.3 percent as the yen strengthened against the dollar.
South Korea's KOSPI rebounded 0.3 percent.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.1 percent, while the Shanghai Composite Index jumped 0.4 percent.
