Caution during trading sessions in the U.S. did not spread to Asia, as the yen weakened and shares rose.
The Japanese Nikkei climbed 0.8%, helped by a slight easing of the yen. The Japanese currency lost 0.4% to 111.37 per dollar after eight days of growth.
The Australian S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.8%, while the Kospi index in South Korea lost 0.2%. The Hang Seng Index fell by 0.2%.
