The dollar edged up on Friday after the U.S. Senate accepted a budget plan for the 2018 fiscal year that is a big step for a further tax reform.
The dollar index gained 0.2 percent to 93.494, set for a weekly rise of 0.4 percent.
The dollar leaped 0.6 percent to 113.16 yen, on course to advance 1.2 percent for the week, as investors focused on Sunday's Japan's general election.
The euro edged down 0.4 percent to $1.1808, sliding toward this week's trough of $1.1730 and losing 0.1 percent for the week.
Sterling sank to $1.3104.
