Review: Euro area bank shares hit highest levels since last January

Euro area banks shares reached their highest level in more than a year on Friday, extending ECB rally after regulator gave a more optimistic comment on the state in the economy.

The euro area banks index rose by 1.9% - the highest figure since last January, while the broader pan-European banks index grew by more than one percent.

On Thursday bank shares revived after expectations increased that the next step of the ECB could be tightening in policy with financial markets now betting on the rate hike by March 2018.
