Review: U.S. stocks open with slightly gains

U.S. stocks opened little changed on Monday, with investors anticipating the earnings season to warrant high cost estimating, and, more urgently, the consequences of President Donald Trump's "very hard" meeting with Chinese peer Xi Jinping.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.07 percent, to 20,676.8, the S&P 500 inched up 0.05 percent, to 2,364.03. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.13 percent, to 5,919.19.

While investors have encouraged Trump's tax and fiscal plan pledges, they are anxious that his protectionist position on trade could have a negative effect on U.S. companies.
