Subway reduces number of restaurants in U.S.

The number of Subway fast food restaurants in the U.S. decreased by 359 locations in 2016: for the first time in its history, the company had a net reduction.

The sandwich shops number fell by 1.3 percent to 26,744 from 27,103 in 2015. Despite that, Subway remains the U.S. and world leader by the number of restaurants with more than 40 th locations worldwide.

Subway total revenues in 2016 dropped to $11.3 billion from $11.5 billion a year earlier, while company revenues outside the U.S. rose by 3.7% to $5.8 billion.
