French group Total will buy the oil and gas unit of Danish company A.P. Moller-Maersk for $7.45 billion.
Under the preliminary terms of the agreement, Maersk will receive a consideration of $4.95 billion in Total shares. Total also will assume $2.5 billion of Maersk Oil's debt.
The deal is expected to be closed in the first quarter of 2018. As a result of the agreement, Total should become the second largest operator of fuel transportation in North-West Europe.
