U.S. non-farm payrolls drop in September due to hurricanes Harvey and Irma

U.S. employment slumped by 33,000 jobs in September for the first time since 2010 due to destructive impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the Labor Department reported on Friday.

The unemployment rate slumped to a fresh 16-year-low of 4.2 percent while wage gains gathered steam.

The U.S. dollar jumped to its peak since July on robust wage growth. The DXY dollar index increased as much as 0.3 percent to 94.27.
