U.S. tech companies urge Supreme Court to protect cellphone location data

The U.S. largest tech companies urged the U.S. Supreme Court to review the rules for access by law enforcement agencies to individuals' sensitive cell phone data without a court order.

The brief was signed by companies including Apple, Facebook, Google, Airbnb, and Dropbox and other major social networks and services.

The companies consider that the Supreme Court should refine the application of certain Fourth Amendment doctrines, which protects citizens from unreasonable searches and detentions.
