Sales of new cars in the UK jumped by 8.4% to 562.337 in March 2017, according to the data of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Sales of cars last month hit an all-time high for the entire time of observations due to changes in taxation. The number of car registrations in the first quarter increased by 6.2% - to 820 thousand vehicles - also a new record level.
Consumers rushed to buy cars before new VED changes come into effect, because of which SMMT expects sales to decline in the future.
The most popular cars in March and the 1st quarter in the UK were Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus.
