UK competition watchdog to launch investigation into hotel booking websites

Britain’s competition watchdog said on Friday it would launched an investigation into hotel booking websites due to its concerns the consumers are being misled.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it was worried about the clarity, exactness and presentation of information on sites, which could break consumer law.

The CMA said it would try to get to the bottom of such issues as hidden charges, search results, and discount claims.

About 70 percent of people looked for a hotel last year via booking sites, including Trivago, booking.com, Expedia and Late Rooms.
