UK manufacturing demand rises to 30-year high

Britain’s factories reported the strongest demand for their products in almost 30 years, the CBI says. The main reasons are sharp drop in the pound and a recovering global economy.

The business lobby group's orders index leaped to 16 in June, its peak since 1988, from 9 in May. The balance for export orders climbed to 13 – the strongest reading in 22 years.

The survey’s measure of average selling prices held firm at +23 and manufacturers were worried it would accelerate in the coming months.
