UK retail sales increased in September, boosted by rising food and clothing prices, the British Retail Consortium reported. Like-for-like retail sales climbed 1.9% in September compared to the same month last year. Total sales surged 2.3%.
The data showed that food sales soared by 2.5% on a like-for-like basis over the three months to September and 3.5% in total, while non-food sales increased by just 0.5%, or by 0.9% on a total basis.
September was a second month in row of relatively good sales growth which should indicate optimistic news for retail distributors and the economy.
