Unilever turned down an initiative to pull up its roots and move the firm’s head office to the Netherlands today despite shareholders calls, leaving one of the high-profile companies in the UK capital with Brexit approaching.
Embed from Getty ImagesUnilever’s shareholders accounting for around 12% of the British-Dutch firm had expressed their denial of the measure, worried about the forced selling of shares implying no premium, lack of clarity connected to the tax on dividends in the Netherlands, as well as about the possible incentive to ensure better security from takeovers through the local legislation.
