The dollar soared half a percent versus the yen on Friday amid news of a potential discussion of North Korean nuclear problem between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The yen dropped 0.5 percent to 106.73 a dollar.
The dollar index was virtually unchanged on the day at 90.158.
The euro was firm at $1.2310, after sliding 0.8 percent in the previous session. The euro declined on Thursday as European Central Bank President Mario Draghi said inflation in euro zone remained subdued and increasing protectionism is a huge risk, despite faster economic growth in region.
Sterling inched up 0.1 percent to $1.3827.
