    Calm before the storm

We observe a little volatility on financial markets despite getting closer to a start of a referendum in UK. A new online poll published by research company SurveyMonkey indicates a narrow one-point lead for the Leave campaign ahead of Thursday’s EU referendum (48/49%). Our Brexit report (here). More on Brexit, here, here & here.

There was a BBC debate concerning a potential outcome of the referendum. Leading names from both sides of the EU referendum have traded blows in a live TV debate at Wembley Arena on the eve of the final day of campaigning. The BBC’s Great Debate featured almost two hours of questions on immigration, the economy and sovereignty.

Oil prices rose in early Asian trading on Wednesday, with U.S. crude joining Brent above $50 a barrel after data from the American Petroleum Institute (API) showed a larger than expected draw on stocks. Japanese shares lost ground on Wednesday, bucking gains in most other Asia markets as investors counted down to the upcoming British vote to decide whether to remain in the European Union. The benchmark Nikkei 225 was down 0.7 percent, with stocks under pressure from a relatively stronger yen.
