Contract size changes on indexes in MT4 and MT5

    Dear clients,

To streamline trading accounts’ servicing in the MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 platforms, AMarkets will modify the contract size for indexes on the weekend of July 15-16. The contract size will be updated for the following instruments:

Symbol Current contract size New contract size
    Nasdaq100 20 1
    DowJones30 5 1
    S&P500 50 1
    DXY 1000 100
    DAX30 25 1
    Russell2000 200 1
    ITA40 5 1
    VIX 4000 400
    ASX200 25 1
    Nikkei225 10 1
    CAC40 10 1
    FTSE100 10 1
    EuroStoxx50 10 1
    China50 10 1
    IBEX35 10 1
    HK50 5 1

After the update, 1 lot will be equal to 1 contract for most indices. If you already have open positions, their volume will be increased proportionally*. These changes will allow you to calculate position value much faster and trade indices with a smaller deposit.

*For example, you have a BUY position of 0.77 lot in the S&P 500 index. After the changes, the volume of your position will be increased 50-fold to 38.5 lots. At the same time, the contract size will be reduced by a factor of 50. As a result, you will still have a BUY position in S&P 500 with a position size of 38.5 contracts.

    FAQ

If you have open positions on the above-mentioned instruments in the MT4 trading platform, after the update, the volume of your positions will be automatically increased in accordance with the new contract size.

In the MT5 trading platform, however, your existing positions on indices will be closed, and the financial result on those positions will be credited to your trading account with the positions being reopened from the previous levels with a new volume. Positions closed before July 15 will remain unchanged in both platforms. You can view them in the “Account History” section‎.

No, changes in the contract size will not affect the financial outcome of your positions in any way.

For MT4 accounts, you’ll need to update the EA settings since the volume of open positions will be increased. If you trade in the MT5 trading platform, you’ll need to close those positions manually because the Expert Advisor won’t be able to recognize them after they are reopened.

Yes, the contract sizes will be changed on both live and demo accounts.
